Guenoc, "Victorian Claret," 2010, North Coast California

Opaque, red in color, this Bordeaux-style blend has a pretty okay nose of slightly cooked red fruit, whipped cream, and fake maple syrup.  Red juicy juicy (but not jammy) fruit dominates the flavor profile along with a bit of smoke.  The mouth-feel is quite restrained compared to this Claret's strong aromatics.  This wine is best drunk quickly, as after about a sitcom-length time in the glass the heat completely takes over the nose.  A dry and rustic finish give the Guenoc some character not usually found in cheaper red blends from California.  Sorry, nothing too exciting today folks!
